Frequently asked questions

How does bubble machine hire work?
You book the machine, we deliver it to your venue, set it up, and collect it once the event is over. The hire includes the machine and bubble fluid for the duration of your event. Switch it on and it runs continuously, producing a steady stream of bubbles. There are no complex controls — it's one of the simplest machines we hire out.
What's included when I hire a bubble machine?
The hire includes the bubble machine and enough bubble fluid for your event. We fill the tank before delivery so it's ready to go when you need it. If you're running a long event or want continuous output, let us know when you book and we'll make sure you have enough fluid.
How many bubbles does the machine produce?
Our machines produce thousands of bubbles per minute — it's a proper continuous stream rather than a slow trickle. The bubbles travel a few metres depending on the fan setting and the conditions on the day. Outdoors in calm conditions, bubbles can drift 5–8 metres before popping. Indoors in still air, they float even further.
How long does a tank of bubble fluid last?
At full output, a standard 1.5–2 litre tank runs for approximately 60–90 minutes of continuous use. We include enough fluid for your event, but if you're planning to run the machine all day or for a very long session, let us know and we'll send extra. Fluid is inexpensive and it's better to have more than you need.
Do you deliver and set up the bubble machine?
Yes. We deliver to your venue, position the machine where you'd like it, and collect everything at the end of the event. Bubble machines need very little space — a table or stand works perfectly. Delivery is available across Johannesburg, Randburg, Sandton, Midrand, and Pretoria; delivery fees are based on your distance from our depot.
Can we collect the bubble machine ourselves?
Yes, self-collection is available and saves the delivery fee. The machine is compact and easy to transport. We'll show you how to fill the fluid tank and operate it at collection — there's genuinely not much to it.
What power does a bubble machine need?
The machine runs off a standard 220V South African plug point and draws 200–600W depending on the model. It's a low-power appliance — it can share a circuit with other equipment without issue. You'll need a plug point within 10 metres of where you'd like it placed; a standard extension lead works fine if needed.
Does someone need to operate the bubble machine during the event?
No. Once it's switched on, it runs on its own. You or a guest just need to top up the fluid if it runs dry. We show you where the tank is and how to refill it at delivery — it takes about 30 seconds. If you'd prefer to have one of our team there for the event, we offer a staffed hire option as an add-on, but most hirers manage it themselves without any difficulty.
Is the bubble fluid safe for children and pets?
Yes. Standard bubble fluid is water-based and non-toxic. It's the same basic chemistry as the bottles of bubbles you'd buy for a child. That said, it should not be swallowed in large amounts and should be kept away from eyes — if it gets in a child's eyes, rinse with clean water. It will not harm pets who walk through the bubble area, but keep the tank itself out of reach so animals don't drink from it directly.
Can bubble fluid make floors slippery?
Yes — this is worth planning for. Bubble fluid that settles on tile, wooden floors, or polished concrete makes the surface slippery, particularly when wet. For indoor events, place the machine where there's good air circulation so bubbles pop before landing, or put it near a surface that isn't a main walkway. Outdoors on grass this is usually a non-issue. If you're setting up on a patio or inside a hall, position the machine where burst bubbles won't collect underfoot in a busy area.
Can a bubble machine be used outdoors?
Yes, but wind is the main factor. In calm conditions outdoors, the bubbles float beautifully. In a light breeze, they drift sideways, which can look great or be annoying depending on the setup. In a strong wind, the bubbles pop almost immediately and you won't get much effect. Indoors in a hall or under a gazebo, the bubbles last much longer and fill the space more effectively. Either works — just factor in the conditions.
Are there any safety considerations with a bubble machine?
The machine itself is low-risk — no heat, no sharp edges. The main safety points are the slippery floor risk covered above, keeping children from drinking the fluid, and making sure no one puts their face directly in front of the output nozzle. The fan is enclosed. For children's events, position the machine at adult height so small children can't reach in and pull at the fluid tank.
Do I need to clean the bubble machine before it's returned?
No. Just make sure the machine is switched off and any remaining fluid is left in the tank for us to drain. Don't tip the machine on its side to empty it. We clean and service all machines between hires.
How far in advance do I need to book bubble machine hire?
A few days' notice is usually enough — bubble machines are a popular but less often over-subscribed hire compared to food machines. For December events, school holiday weekends, and busy Saturday dates in Johannesburg and Pretoria, book a week or two ahead to be safe. We can often accommodate last-minute requests but can't always guarantee availability.
What happens if I need to change or cancel my booking?
Let us know as soon as possible. Changes can usually be accommodated up to two weeks before your event, subject to availability. Cancellations more than 7 working days before the event qualify for a full refund. If you cancel within 7 working days, the booking fee is not refunded. Put any changes or cancellations in writing.
What events is bubble machine hire suited to?
Kids' birthday parties, school fêtes, gender reveals, garden weddings, church events, and any event where you want something visually fun without much effort. They're a hit at toddler parties — children that age are captivated by bubbles. They also work well as a backdrop for photos at Johannesburg and Pretoria garden events. Pair one with a candy floss machine or popcorn machine for a full fun food and entertainment setup.
More about bubble machine hire randburg, johannesburg

Bubbles do something specific to a party

Children see bubbles and move towards them. That's not a metaphor. It's what happens. A bubble machine running in a garden or hall produces a steady stream and children walk into it, reach for bubbles, pop them, and then want more. For toddlers and primary school kids, it holds attention in a way that's difficult to replicate with anything more complicated.

Bubble machine hire is among the simplest things we deliver — no setup complexity, no ongoing management, no warm-up time. It switches on, it runs, and that's most of the story.

Where wind and location actually matter

Indoors in a hall or under a gazebo in Randburg, bubbles float for a long time — the still air lets them drift, fill the space, and catch the light. That's when you get the proper effect: bubbles rising up, covering a room, kids chasing them.

Outdoors is more variable. In calm conditions, a garden event in Sandton or Pretoria works beautifully. Light breezes scatter the bubbles sideways, which can look good or simply mean they drift away from the main party area. A strong wind pops them almost immediately after they leave the nozzle, which significantly reduces the effect.

For outdoor events, positioning the machine against a wall or fence — or under a gazebo — creates enough shelter to let bubbles build up and float rather than popping in the air. It's worth thinking about before the day.

The floor question

Bubble fluid is water-based and non-toxic. It's also slippery when it settles on smooth surfaces — tile, polished concrete, wooden flooring. This is the practical thing to plan for with bubble machine hire indoors.

Positioning the machine near a doorway, at the edge of the room, or in an area away from the main foot traffic path means any settled fluid isn't landing in a walkway where guests are moving fast. On grass outdoors, it's essentially a non-issue. On an indoor dance floor or a paved hall in Johannesburg — it's worth knowing. Either place the machine somewhere the surface sees less foot traffic, or check that guests are aware of the area.

Pairing it with other hire

Bubble machine hire works well alongside UV glow party pack hire — bubbles under UV light catch the beam and create a visual effect that a UV setup on its own doesn't produce. At a teen glow party or Halloween event, it adds a moving, active visual element to what is otherwise a static light show.

For toddler parties and kids' events, it pairs naturally with soft play toys hire. Soft play gives children a structured zone; the bubble machine running at the edge of the play area adds something to chase and interact with physically. A child who's gotten bored of the tunnel discovers the bubbles and there's another twenty minutes of entertainment.

For wedding cocktail hours and garden events across Midrand and Sandton, bubbles in the background during arrival create atmosphere without demanding attention — guests notice them, take a few photographs, and move on. It's an easy addition that shows up well in photos.
